Broughty Ferry is Dundee’s premier suburb.  It nestles in a superb location on the estuary of the river Tay

Originally a small fishing village, this part of its history can be seen in the quaint fisher cottages on the banks of the river.  Its ancient castle (right) guards the mouth of the Tay.  When the jute barons of Dundee moved east to get away from the smoky atmosphere of Dundee, they built their mansions in Broughty Ferry.  Many of them can still be seen today.

Broughty Ferry retains a village atmosphere with many independent specialist shops but there is more to "the Ferry"  as its main shopping street also hosts the larger chain outlets.

Along the river there is a rich variety of interests.  From a leisurely walk in the fantastic Barnhill Rock Gardens (left),  to the more active pursuits of open water swimming and sailing.  There are two beaches, the stony river beach which faces Fife and the sandy sea beach which faces the North Sea and the Tay's own dolphin pod can be seen from them both.  Between the beaches there is an award winning children's play park.  For those who favour indoor activities Broughty Ferry is famous for its pubs and restaurants.  From the traditional old, low-ceiling pub to the most modern of restaurants - the Ferry has them all.

Golfers basing themselves in Broughty Ferry will find themselves central to many of the world's most famous golf courses.    St Andrews is a 25 minute drive, Carnoustie is a 10 minute drive and Gleneagles is less than an hour away.  Many other less known but still stunning golf courses surround Dundee, including Dundee's two municipal golf courses both set in beautiful parkland.

Walkers can be in the Angus Glens within half and hour.  The Glenshee ski slopes are one hour away.

Dundee is a great place to be based for touring and seeing the sites of Scotland.    Edinburgh and Aberdeen are just over an hours drive away, Glasgow and Inverness are two hours drive and the scenic Fife coastal towns are just over the river.  All of these destinations are accessible by public transport from Dundee.

There is a lot to do and see in Broughty Ferry and Dundee so come and see us and enjoy yourself.
